NPD BookScan extracts point-of-sale data on print books on a weekly basis. The data is collected from more than 16,000 locations, including e-tailers, chains, mass merchandisers, independent bookstores, and much more.
NPD BookScan covers around 85% of the US trade print book market. The ranks in the list are based on piece sales. A few publishers classify titles, mostly text or art books, as graphic novels; ICv2 does not include those titles in these rankings.
ICv2 also reported the top 20 manga volumes for 2022 through ComicHub. It is a comic book store point-of-sale system. Chainsaw Man volume 1 also managed to grab the first spot on that list, with seven total volumes ranked.
Other titles on the chart are My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Demon Slayer, Kimetsu no Yaiba – Stories of Water and Flame, Deadpool: Samurai, Kaiju No. 8, Akira, and SPY x FAMILY.
The official Twitter handle of Yukito Kishiro’s Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle series has announced that the manga will be delayed until summer instead of the previously announced spring season return. The manga will be moving to Kodansha’s Comic Days app since Evening magazine has ended publication with its final issue.
The manga went on a hiatus in October 2022. The manga also took a two-month break in June 2021 and made a comeback in August. Kodansha USA Publishing started releasing Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle in English in February 2018. The company published the eighth volume on July 2022.
