Moon Studio Campfire Tournament – Format And Teams :

The group stage consists of single round-robin best-of-two matches, where the top four teams advance to the upper bracket while the fifth-eighth placed teams still advance to the lower bracket of the playoffs. The bottom two seeds will end their tournament life with elimination. The eight surviving teams competing in the playoffs produced better matches as they played best-of-three series in a double-elimination bracket.

SEA teams include Lilgun, Neon Esports, Atlantis, Xerxia, Kobolds, and Yangon Galacticos. Meanwhile, Dawn Gaming, LBZS, Meteor Gaming and iG.Vitalty are the representatives from China.

Lilgun is arguably the most accomplished in this tournament, especially being a household name last season. Finishing the top two in the final Division 2 bracket promoted the Mongolian team to the Division 1 bracket of the major leagues. Interestingly, Lilgun’s two-year-old roster is still running, which is a testament to Lilgun’s persistence.

He had his moments in the DPC formerly of Yangon Galacticos, but eventually fell. Nevertheless, despite the poor performance, YG still retained their old roster. Two Chinese teams are dominant in the DPC namely LBZS and IG.Vitality. While both teams are not high-profile Chinese powerhouses, LBZS has had its moments, especially during its early debut.

WEEK 1 RECAP AT MOON STUDIO CAMPFIRE :

The first days of the event showcased an impressive performance from XERXIA, which overwhelmed China and inter-regional opponents alike. We can attribute XERXIA’s success to their split-push strategy which, in addition to assuring late game leads, is also a strong snowballing strategy when the game is going well.

Despite the impressive impact on the Chinese teams, LBZS struggle to snatch a clean series from not only Chinese rivals but SEA opponents as well. That said, it is unlikely that LBZS will leave the Moon Studio Campfire via group stage elimination as their matches are similar. Additionally, LBZS can treat the group stage games as a level playing field to test new strategies as we see very versatile drafts in every match.

Although it’s been a week since Moon Studio Campfire started, there aren’t many matches per day. Thus far, Lilgun, the fan favorite, has not started his first match nor do we have any insight on the potential of Yangon Galacticos or Meteor Gaming. Nevertheless, expect more action in the days leading up to Christmas and we may see a glimpse of stronger teams in the upcoming DPC 2023.
