Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has had a number of faults since its debut, as is typical for new games in Activision’s venerable first-person shooter series. Some fans have also criticized the game for having a startling lack of features. Even while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s storyline has received a surprisingly high level of acclaim, its multiplayer mode has received less attention than it should have, especially considering the game’s anticipated two-year lifespan. On the r/ModernWarfareII forum, Reddit member u/blazeryan made note of the long list of anticipated features that haven’t yet been included in the game.

Other necessities, like standard stat tracking, barracks, challenges, and metals—features that have been present on launch day in nearly every Call of Duty game going back to the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare—haven’t been added. Hardcore modes and proper leaderboard integration have yet to be implemented. This public outrage also follows the debut of Modern Warfare 2’s roughly forty-gig day-one patch.

Key components of Modern Warfare 2’s updated gunsmith mechanics appear to be missing. Players cannot presently inspect weapons at the gunsmith or store bespoke designs, even though the basic idea of building a weapon based on a receiver type rather than a pre-fab rifle works as planned. Additionally, there aren’t any unique reticles yet, camo unlock messages don’t display during gameplay as they should, and maybe most importantly, it doesn’t seem possible to turn off crossplay.

Another Redditor shared a similar opinion by publishing a post “Forgot to ship a huge chunk of multiplayer?” I am “confused” as to why. OP decides it’s “weird to take or withhold what a player has” and gives players something to “work towards” and hone.

That said, there’s no doubt that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be making big changes in the coming weeks. Billed as a multi-year live service, the content and quality of life updates will roll out sooner or later. Chances are high, and with Call of Duty Warzone 2 launching in the coming weeks, those wanting impactful changes won’t have to wait. Longer.
