Blue Lock Soccer Anime Gets the Second Season and Film Adaptation

Blue Lock, the final episode is on AIR and the announcement of 2nd series is out. Also, the film adaptation announcement is out with the new cast.

After a successful run of the first season, the Blue Lock soccer manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura is getting a second season and a film adaptation. The announcement came at the end of the 24th and final episode of the first season, which aired on Sunday, March 19th. The film will be based on the BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- spinoff manga and will focus on Seishirō Nagi before he enters the Bluelock facility. In addition, six new cast members have been confirmed to join the production.

New Cast Members Join the Production

Yūichi Nakamura will voice Ryūsei Shidō, Makoto Furukawa will voice Tabito Karasu, Kengo Kawanishi will voice Eita Otoya, Takuya Eguchi will voice Kenyu Yukimiya, Hiro Shimono will voice Julian Loki, and Shin’ichirō Kamio will voice Leonardo Luna. With these new additions, the already talented cast will undoubtedly bring even more life to the characters and story.

Blue Lock follows the story of Japan’s soccer team after a devastating defeat at the 2018 World Cup. The team struggles to regroup and realizes that what they are missing is an absolute Ace Striker who can guide them to victory. The Japan Football Union decides to create a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, gathering 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players for this purpose. The manga explores the journey of these players as they compete against each other to become the ultimate Ace Striker and lead Japan’s soccer team to victory.

The Blue Lock manga was launched in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018 and has since gained a massive following. The manga’s 17th compiled book volume was published in December 2021, and the series has over 4.5 million copies printed. In 2021, the manga won the Best Shōnen Manga award in Kodansha’s 45th annual Manga Awards.

The Blue Lock anime premiered on October 8th, 2021, on TV Asahi and its affiliates in the “NUMAnimation” programming block. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs, and started streaming the anime’s English dub on October 22nd.
