Apex Legends Mobile has officially gone offline, leaving its fans wondering whether they will ever be able to play the game again. However, when the game was released on May 17, 2022, it was riddled with bugs and poor optimization, which turned off many players.

The game was developed in partnership with Tencent’s Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, the same studio behind PUBG Mobile. Despite the hype around its initial release, The game’s revenue was 96% down since its global release, while CoD Mobile’s revenue grew 7% in the same timeframe, according to a Sensor Tower report from February.

EA’s Decision to Shut Down Apex Legends Mobile

On February 1, 2023, EA announced that it would be “sunsetting” Apex Legends Mobile on May 1, 2023, amidst a larger shift away from mobile games for the developer. This decision came despite the #SaveApexMobile campaign run by the game’s fans to stop its shutdown. In a farewell letter to its players, EA thanked them for their support and expressed hope to see them on console and PC. However, fans still wonder if the game will ever come back.

EA’s Plan for the Future of Apex Legends Mobile

In the Q3 FY23 Quarterly Results, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, spoke about the game’s shutdown. He said that the game failed to meet players’ expectations, which led to its shutdown. However, he added that EA could introduce a “reimagined and connected Apex mobile experience” in the future. While this doesn’t guarantee the game’s return any time soon, it gives hope to its fans that The game’s story on the mobile platform might not have ended yet.

Apex Legends Mobile’s rise and fall has been a troubled one, with its initial bugs and poor optimization leading to a significant drop in revenue. Despite EA’s decision to shut down the game, its fans still hold on to the hope that it may make a return in the future.
