Anime production company Aniplex has announced the highly anticipated anime adaptation of the popular Korean webcomic series A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special at AnimeJapan on March 25, 2023. The anime is set to be released sometime in 2023 and will be simulcast on Crunchyroll in multiple territories.
The manhwa follows the story of Desir Herman, a skilled magician in a world on the brink of destruction after a devastating ten-year war in the “shadow labyrinth”. Despite his formidable abilities, Desir is unable to stop the looming threat to humanity’s very existence. When he’s sent back in time to his early days of studying magic at the prestigious Hebrion Academy, Desir is determined to save not only himself but also his friends and comrades he once lost. With the knowledge of what their future holds, Desir’s efforts may prevent the same terrible destiny from repeating itself.
The webcomic series, illustrated by Wookjakga, was first serialized in 2018 and is based on a web novel by Yoo So-Nan that was published in 2016. Yoo So-Nan is also credited with the story of the webcomic. Currently, the manhwa has released 219 chapters (4 seasons) and is available on Kakaopage (Korean), Tapas (English), and Tappytoon (English). Yen Press is also releasing the series in English.

Aniplex has released a new key visual to celebrate the anime adaptation announcement. Takuma Terashima will be voicing the main character, Desir Herman. Further announcements regarding the cast, staff, and studio will be revealed soon.
