OpTic Texas attracted attention in more ways than one throughout the weekend, the M4 proved to be the superior weapon in the meta, Twitch breathed new life into the Call of Duty scene, an SAE killstreak bug divided the community, and Vegas Legion continued his losing streak. While there was a lot of action this weekend, here are our main takeaways from the CDL opening weekend that should keep those who couldn’t watch in the loop.

After the failure of the offseason, OpTic Texas fans were eager to see how their team would do on the latest title shot, especially after Scump announced that this would be his final season as a pro. OpTic’s first match against Minnesota RØKKR was the talk of the weekend on Friday, December 2 when the team decided to forfeit the match after being up 2-1 in the series. An SAE killstreak bug towards the end of control resulted in a replay decision in favor of RØKKR.OpTic declined to play the map, giving Minnesota the map win. He then refused to play for the rest of the series, missing the match and resulting in his first defeat of the year.

The SAE killstreak bug has been debated by the community and recalled after OpTic and RØKKR were used in the match. This bug freezes players for 15 seconds after exiting their killstreak screen. The bug was known by the players before the start of the game and was also GA’d from use in the CDL. Cammy accidentally used it during control, resulting in a controversial replay and eventual forfeiture from OpTic.At the very least, this situation showed that the devs urgently needed to address this bug or make it so that players were not forced to equip SAE Streak to avoid such issues going forward.

M4 becomes the superior weapon

It was expected by many in the community that MW2 would be an AR-heavy game. Several teams were seen using multiple ARs, with some running upwards of three depending on the map and mode.Despite many fans and pros calling for the M4 to be GA’d from the game, the gun was clearly the favorite among teams this past weekend. It was the player-favorite gun and many pros showed how cracking it could be. The M4’s strengths could lead to adjustments in the meta in the near future, if changes are made to the gun or pros decide to GA it.

Twitch brings back CDL viewership in call of duty league

After three years of streaming exclusively on YouTube, CDL made its official return to Twitch this weekend. And Twitch has proven to be the more lucrative platform ever, with matches drawing in tens of thousands of views, with some series drawing in over 150,000 viewers at a time. These numbers are much better than the 30,000 to 40,000 that the league used to average on YouTube. This allowed professionals to hop on Twitch after the conclusion of their matches to co-stream games, which helped them build their own brands as well.

Vegas continue to struggle despite revamp in Call of duty

Ultimately, the Vegas Legion continued to struggle in the CDL, despite relocating and signing a competing team. Many fans thought this year would be an upturn for Legion after signing veteran talents like TJHaLy and Clayster to the roster. But with two close losses to the defending world champion LA Thieves and Florida Mutineers, the organization is now officially over 200 days since their last win.The last time the Legion won was on May 6 during the Vanguard season against the Toronto Ultra.
