Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been removed from FIFA 22 by EA Sports after accusations of rape and assault. Following the latest database update, which was released on all platforms including PlayStation, Xbox and PC on Tuesday, February 01, 2022, Greenwood no longer features in the popular football simulating gaming title in offline modes and has been removed from the United squad. The striker spent two nights in a police cell after cops swooped over the rape and assault claims of Sunday morning.

Meanwhile he is still available to use on the FIFA Ultimate Team game mode and can still be traded on the game mode’s transfer market. Manchester United’s official partner Cadbury said Greenwood won’t appear on any of their marketing products. Sponsor TeamViewer also announced that they are “closely monitoring developments”.

Sportswear giant Nike, which provides the forward’s boots, have suspended their sponsorship with the 20-year-old. The brand said in a statement: “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation”. Greenwood has worn Nike boots since breaking into United’s first team in 2019. He has been indefinitely suspended by his club after being arrested in accusation of rape and assault following a series of allegations posted online.

Manchester United initially said it did “not condone violence of any kind” and later suspended the forward as a police probe was launched.

A Greater Manchester Police statement said: “Greater Manchester Police were made aware earlier today (Sunday 30 January) of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence. An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
