Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is understandably delighted with the manner in which the Reds won their last Premier League match. An injury time goal by Marcus Rashford allowed United to take all three points against West Ham United on Saturday. In the final seconds of the game, Ralf Rangnick’s three substitutes – Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani and Rashford – combined for the only goal of the match to send the supporters at Old Trafford into wild celebrations. After the match, De Gea praised the support of the fans and the determination shown by his teammates to fight till the end.

Speaking about the incredible win on MUTV, De Gea said, “It is a massive goal and a massive win for us. We trust in ourselves and fight until the end, and we scored a beautiful goal.” The Spanish shot-stopper then shifted his focus to the crowd and emphasised the importance the crowd had in helping the player get over the line.

He added: “[The fans] keep pushing the team. They keep shouting and that gave us a bit more energy at the end of the game. They were great for the whole game, and they deserved the win.”

De Gea on keeping a clean sheet

It is also important to note that the victory helped United keep their first Premier League clean sheet since the 1-0 away win at Norwich on 11th December. Praising the team for keeping a clean sheet, De Gea was also happy that they did not concede many chances against one of the top-flight’s in-form teams.

“Keeping a clean sheet was massive for us,” he said. “We didn’t concede many chances today and we controlled the game very well. We controlled the game from the beginning, and I was feeling the game was there for us.”

“Hopefully the game gives us more confidence, more trust in ourselves. From today, let’s see if we can win more games in a row, control games more and keep more clean sheets.”

Meanwhile, interim manager Ralf Rangnick was also happy with scoring an injury-time winner. Speaking about scoring in stoppage time, Rangnick said, “I wouldn’t mind if that happened but again of course we would also like to have more games like Brentford when we were 3-0 up. But if you score in the last second of the game, the big advantage is there is no time for the other team to reply, and that was the good one about today’s goal.”
