Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has confirmed that his side have lost out on the signature of River Plate forward Julian Alvarez to Manchester City. The Cityzens are reportedly closing in on acquiring the signature of the Argentine international for a fee of GBP 15.5 million including bonuses. Fiorentina and Manchester United were also interested in the 21-year-old prolific striker, and La Viola Prade has revealed that the youngster will soon be at the Etihad.

Details of City’s pursuit of Alvarez emerged last week, and it appears to be a matter of time before the Argentine is confirmed as a City player. He stepped in as an 18-year-old , started scoring and has not looked back since. He earned another cap for Argentina last night, in the 2-1 win against Chile, it was his sixth international appearance.

Speaking to Firenzeviola.it, Prade said: “We followed him for a long time but there was never the need to take him and now he has been taken by Manchester City

The Viola director did question Alvarez’s  decision, though, adding: “I don’t know if the choice to go to City be the right one for him, given the many champions it will be difficult to find continuity.”

Alvarez finished the 2021 season with 18 goals and nine assists in 21 Liga Professional appearances.
