Liverpool humiliated Manchester United for a second time this season, winning 4-0 at Anfield in the Premier League on Tuesday. The latest thumping comes after their 5-0 triumph at Old Trafford earlier this season, which signaled the beginning of the end for former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This time though interim manager Ralf Rangnick had to bear the brunt of the supporters’ anger. It means Manchester United have now conceded nine times against Liverpool without a reply this season.

Let us take a look at the talking points from Tuesday night’s comfortable win for Liverpool against Manchester United:

Liverpool maintain quadruple quest alive

The 4-0 victory means temporarily Liverpool overtake Manchester City for the top spot in the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s side could very well reclaim the first place on Wednesday night having played a game less, but what it means is that Liverpool are very much in contention to win three more titles this season.

Having already won the Carabao Cup title by beating Chelsea in the final via penalties, the Reds are also in the FA Cup final and will once again face the Blues for the trophy. In the Champions League semifinal, Villarreal will be waiting for Liverpool. It means Jurgen Klopp’s side could end the season with as many as four titles, something every Liverpool supporter dreams of.

Mohamed Salah loves playing against Manchester United

Liverpool have now scored nine goals against Manchester United this season without reply and five of them have come from the boots of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has been in sensational form this season, scoring goals for fun. However, he recently experienced a small dip in front of goal, which he overcame on Tuesday night with a man-of-the-match performance.

Having set up the opener for Luis Diaz, Salah scored two goals on the night. In the reverse fixture, he struck an impressive hat-trick at Old Trafford. Not to mention that Salah has also scored in the 4-2 victory over United at the end of last season. In total, he has six goals in the last three matches against the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s top-four hopes are all but over

As per the Premier League table, Manchester United – 54 points from 33 games – are only three points off fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur but have played a game more. Arsenal are also on the same number of points as United but have two games in hand. In reality though, the task is much more difficult. Rangnick’s side still have some difficult games left to play in the final weeks of the season.

Their next two matches are against Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premier League. Besides, their confidence might be at an all-time low following their recent run of poor results. It will further dent their chances of securing an unlikely top-four finish. Not only that Manchester United need to start a winning streak but they also require their rivals to slip up in order to secure the fourth spot, which seems extremely unlikely.
