Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Fabio Carvalho from Fulham for GBP 5 million plus add-ons in the Summer. The Reds initially tried to sign the 19-year-old in January but failed to pull it off. But with the Portuguese footballer now into his final months of his contract, terms had already been agreed with the Championship club, and the player himself. Reports suggest Carvalho has already undergone a medical with his current club’s permission.

Meanwhile Carvalho could move for free to teams overseas, clubs in England will have to pay a tribunal fee or agree a transfer with Fulham, which Liverpool have done. The agreement means Carvalho will join Liverpool on July 1. Jurgen Klopp’s side have agreed to a 20 per cent sell-on fee and a further GBP 2.7 million in add-ons.

The two clubs have stayed in contact since January, when the deal fell through due to time constraints.  He is reportedly expected to sign a contract until summer of 2027. Carvalho will see out the season with the Championship side, helping them push for the promotion. Fulham are currently 11 points clear of Bournemouth at the top of the championship table, well positioned to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Carvalho has scored seven goals in 29 Championship appearances for Marco Silva’s side this season and also found the back of the net in Fulham’s 4-1 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

With James Milner not getting any younger at 36 and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain prone to injuries Carvalho should take up the attacking midfielder’s role in Klopp’s side next season. Although he is not going to get into the team straight away the teenager is sure to get a decent amount of game time.

Liverpool are currently placed second in the Premier League league standings with 72 points from 30 games, just one point behind leaders Manchester City, who they will face next at Anfield on Sunday. A positive result at home will take Klopp’s side to the summit of the table.
