Manchester City fans could be in for a memorable summer transfer window, with the club ready to trigger the 75 million euros release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract, according to Sky Sports. Bringing the Norwegian to the Etihad Stadium this summer could solve City’s long-standing concerns up front. Since the departure of club-record goalscorer Sergio Aguero at the end of the 2020-21 season, Pep Guardiola’s side have mostly played without a recognised centre-forward. That has not stopped them from dominating the league, with the Blue half of Manchester leading the Premier League table and are also in the semifinals of the Champions League.

Interest in Haaland has been high for a while, with several elite European clubs eyeing his signature from Borussia Dortmund. The massive competition for his signature and his release clause means the German club have little chance of retaining the highly-talented striker. Besides, the fee of 75m euros or £62m for Haaland is a bargain in the transfer window. Considering what the 21-year-old has already achieved at the top level, this fee is quite less than his reported market value.

Besides, reports in England indicate that Manchester City have to pay more than £500,000 per week for Haaland, who is represented by Mino Raiola. Further reports state that his current club Dortmund are looking to sign Red Bull Salzburg centre-forward Karim Adeyemi to replace Haaland.

Will Erling Haaland signing end Man City’s Harry Kane interest?

If the deal goes through, Man City will have not only filled the void up front, but also acquired one of the best talents in the world. If Haaland moves to the Etihad, it is safe to assume that City’s interest in Harry Kane will be over.

Manchester City were eager to get the Tottenham Hotspur striker to Etihad Stadium last summer but a deal could never be finalised, resulting in Kane staying in London. However, it is also not clear whether the striker would want to leave Spurs this season after rediscovering his form under manager Antonio Conte.

Nonetheless, Haaland will elevate City to a different level in both England and Europe. The Norwegian has scored 25 goals in 26 games for Dortmund this campaign. Overall, he has scored an impressive 82 goals in 85 games for the German club since joining them from Salzburg in January 2020.

With age on his side, Haaland will only get better. He will probably be the first-choice centre-forward for any team for the next decade or more. Taking his release clause into consideration, City will be getting a bargain for him. He is often compared with Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, who is also rumoured to leave his club to join Real Madrid.
