Yusuf Pathan, a former Indian all-rounder and hard-hitting batsman, has been signed by the Dubai Capitals for the inaugural season of the UAE’s International League T20 (ILT20). Yusuf Pathan stood out in the just concluded Road Safety World Series 2022 and the second edition of the Legends League Cricket. Dubai Capitals, which is the sister franchise of IPL side Delhi Capitals had made several important acquisitions like Rovman Powell (West Indies), Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka), Hazratullah Zazai (Afghanistan), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Afghanistan) among others.

Many people may be surprised by the signing because Yusuf retired from all forms of cricket in 2021. However, the seasoned campaigner’s exploits in the RSWS and the LLC have piqued the Capitals owner’s interest. Yusuf made his debut for India in the historic T20 World Cup Final in 2007 against arch-rival Pakistan, and he went on to appear for the Men in Blue on 22 occasions in the game’s shortest format.

Pathan’s exploits in the IPL

The world took notice of the world-class batter during the maiden edition of the IPL. Despite not being as prolific on the international level as he was in the IPL, he built a name for himself with his memorable cameos. His strike rate of 139.34 in T20 matches demonstrates his talent. Notably, the competition is expected to debut in January 2023 and has obtained multi-year ICC clearance. It will be played across the UAE’s world-class cricket facilities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah in a 34-match schedule.
