The 2022 edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge is all set to take place from May 23 to May 28 at Pune’s MCA stadium where the Trailblazers will take on Supernovas in the opening match. The tournament started in 2018 with a one-off exhibition match in Mumbai. The next season saw three teams competing with each other with Supernovas defending their title in Jaipur as well. In 2020, the tournament took place in the UAE and Smriti Mandhana led Trailblazers won the title. And, due to COVID, the tournament didn’t take place last year as well.
Team India vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur is one of the best batters in recent times. She has a great campaign in the Women’s World Cup earlier this year. She was the second-highest run-getter for the Indian women’s cricket team right after Smriti Mandhana in the mega event with 318 runs from 7 games as well with 2 fifties and the highest score – 109. However, in the 2019 season, she was the third-leading run-scorer with 98 runs as well and she led the team to a convincing victory too as well over Mithali Raj-led Velocity. However, she failed to defend the title in 2020 as Trailblazers won the title as well. It will be interesting to see how she will perform.

West Indies batting all-rounder Deandra Dottin is one of the swashbuckling players in world cricket who can turn the table single-handedly with her all-round show. She was in formidable form in the Women’s World Cup earlier this year. However, in May 2022, Dottin was added to play in the privately-run 2022 FairBreak Invitational T20 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates for the Barmy Army team. She was in great form, finishing the tournament with 289 runs in 7 innings and becoming the second-highest run-getter as well. Her form will help the side to do well in the tournament as well.
Sophie Ecclestone is the number 1 bowler in the ICC players ranking for the limited-overs cricket. She is one of the bowlers who is known to trouble any batter in world cricket. She is one of the key players of England and features in almost every T20 league around the world. In April 2022, Manchester Originals bought her for the 2022 season of The Hundred. On 31 March 2022, in the semi-final match of the World Cup against South Africa, she picked up her first five-wicket haul in ODIs, with 6/36 and finished 2022 FairBreak Invitational T20 with 17 wickets from 7 matches as well. Her team’s success will depend on her form mostly as well in the Women’s T20 Challenge.
