Sachin Tendulkar was born on 24th April 1973. He is a former international cricketer who has represented India in all three formats of the game. Tendulkar has also captained the Indian national team. He played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Fondly called ‘Master Blaster’, Sachin is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket.

Tendulkar’s elegance and style are almost artistry. His batting technique is a mix of classical cricket shots and raw aggression. He can score across the field and has all the shots in the textbook.

Tendulkar made his Test debut against Pakistan on 15 November 1989 at the age of 16. A month later, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan. He thus became the youngest player to debut for India in Tests and ODIs.

Despite impressive knocks following his debut, Tendulkar rose to fame in the mid-90s. Sachin’s first ODI century came against Sri Lanka, his 78th ODI match, in 1994.

His finest performances came against Australia, the most dominant team of the era. The ‘desert storm’ series saw Sachin grab the headlines with one of his famous knocks. Following the series, spinner Shane Warne joked that he had nightmares about Tendulkar’s batting.

In a career spanning over 24 years, Tendulkar created and set innumerable records in cricket. He is the only player in cricket to score over 30,000 international runs. He holds the records for highest number of centuries in both Tests (51) and ODIs (49) as well as in Tests and ODIs combined (100). Through his double ton against South Africa in 2010, Sachin Tendulkar became the first man to score a double century in ODIs.

The Government of India has honoured Sachin Tendulkar with several awards for his outstanding contribution to cricket. In 1994, he has presented with Arjuna Award for his achievement in sports and Khel Ratna, India’s highest honour for achievement in sports, in 1997. In 1999 and 2008, the government honoured him with Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan, two of India’s highest civilian awards. After his retirement, Sachin received Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.

Sachin and Anjali Tendulkar met for the first time at the Mumbai International Airport in 1990 when Tendulkar was returning from an international cricket tour. At this time, Anjali was practising medicine at JJ Hospital in Mumbai and didn’t know much about cricket. They fell in love and dated for five years before getting married on 24th May 1995. After the birth of Arjun, their second child, in 1999, Anjali gave up her career to look after the family. She also helps the underprivileged in society through philanthropic works.
