Sanju Samson is a professional Indian cricketer, who has represented the national team several times. Samson, in domestic cricket plays for Kerala state. He is a right handed batsman and a full time wicket keeper. Samson was part of 2014’s under 19 team of India as their vice captain. Samson has been a part of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, for quite a long time now. He is currently leading the team in the 2023 season. His career initially started in Delhi, but later he shifted to Kerala. Samson was born on 11 November, 1994 in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. Samson’s father, Viswanath used to play football for Delhi. His mother Ligy is a housewife. Samson’s brother also used to play cricket in his early days.

Samson scored a double century in 2008-09 Vijay Merchant Trophy, which created an opportunity for him to play for Kerala in the 2009-10 Ranji Trophy. At the age of 14, he became the youngest player from Kerala to play in Ranji Trophy. Against Vidarbha in 2011-12 Ranji Trophy, Samson played his first class debut match. He played his debut T20 match against Hyderabad in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on 16 October, 2011. He scored his first century in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season against Himachal Pradesh. He became the highest run scorer for Kerala in 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season. Against Assam in 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season, he scored his first double century.

In a series of One Day Internationals (ODI) and T20 Internationals (T20I), Samson was selected in India’s team of 17 players to play against England. However, Samson didn’t get the chance to play in the entire series. Due to Ambati Rayudu being injured, he was replaced by Samson in 2015 for a series against Zimbabwe. On 19 July, 2015, he played his debut T20 match for India against Zimbabwe. After four years of gap, he was selected for the T20 series against Bangladesh, but didn’t get the chance to play. Samson was selected for the ODI and T20 series against Australia in October 2020. Being out of form, his performance wasn’t worth noticing. He was then dropped from the team for the series against England.

Samson was initially bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2012 Indian Premier League (IPL). However he didn’t get the opportunity to play in the entire season. Later he was dropped by KKR and was acquired by Rajasthan Royals in 2013. Samson played his debut IPL match against Kings Eleven Punjab on 14 April, 2013. Samson became the youngest player in IPL history to score a half century in his second IPL match. For two years, for RR being out of the tournament, Samson played for Delhi Daredevils. In the 2018 IPL auctions, he was again bought by RR. Samson was named the captain of the team for the 2021 IPL season. He became the first captain to score a hundred in his debut match as a captain for RR. Samson led his team to the finals, when ended up being the runner up for the 2022 season.
