 Issy Wong is a woman cricketer who represents England Internationally. Her  full name is Isabelle Eleanor Chih Ming Wong. She was born on 15 May 2002. She is a fast-medium bowler who presently plays for Warwickshire, Central Sparks, Birmingham Phoenix, Mumbai Indians, and England. Wong’s family has been into cricket for quite a long time. Her two great-uncles both represented Hong Kong in the International cricket for men’s side. Donald Anderson, one of them, was a lieutenant in the Hong Kong defense force. Wong’s family came to know afterwards, after she began playing cricket, did her family learn that he was also a great batting all-rounder. She at the age of 17, became the youngest cricketer to represent Hong Kong.

Wong’s family along with Wong shifted from London to Warwickshire only when she was five years old. She used to attend Bentley Heath Primary School in Solihull. She showed her interest in cricket and began participating in the school’s after-school Chance to Shine cricket programme at the age of six. She was one of just two girls in a group of 50 male students. Her interest showed results and she quickly became obsessed with the game. She and Lauren Bell were the first complete Chance to Shine participants to play for England in 2022. A year after attending the program she was selected in under 11 as part of the country’s academy program.

Wong was given her professional contract to play for The West Midlands regional hub in 2020. Wong then became the part of  the Sydney Thunder for the next Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 07 season as a substitute for the injured Shabnim Ismail in October 2021. Wong finished the 2021 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and became the third-highest wicket taking bowler, with 14 wickets, including 5/49 against Northern Diamonds. Her most impressive performance was seen against Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, where she took 6 wickets with an average of 32.00. She was signed by the Birmingham Phoenix for the 2022 season of The Hundred in April 2022. It was reported in August 2022 that she will be going from Sydney Thunder to Hobart Hurricanes for the forthcoming Big Bash season.

Wong was selected to the England’s Academy squad for the 2019/20 season. She was named in the squad and she was the nets bowler for England players prior to their series against the West Indies, however she was not included to the team which played the match. Wong was also involved and traveled with the England squad for their series against New Zealand in January 2021 but did not get to play. She made her Test debut for England against South Africa on June 27, 2022. Wong was also picked to England’s Women’s One Day International (WODI) team for their matches against South Africa on July 2, 2022. She made her WODI debut for England against South Africa on July 15, 2022, and took three wickets.
