Phillips started his career as a wicketkeeper but now has developed the skills to bowl off-spinners. Glenn Philips is one of the most exciting players going around in New Zealand cricket. Born in South Africa in 1996, Philips made a mark in professional cricket from an early age given his hitting abilities, he moved countries to have a better chance at making it to the next level. Phillips took giant strides at junior level cricket, Philips made his List A debut in January 2015 in the Ford Trophy and impressed everyone with his power-hitting ability. He was picked for the New Zealand squad for the 2006 U-19 World Cup.

Phillips had a sensational debut with the bat in T20s for the Otago Volts in the McDonald’s Super Smash, where he stunned everyone with a knock of 55 of 32 deliveries and ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer. Given his abilities with the bat, his transformation to international cricket was pretty smooth as he was fast-tracked into the national T20 side and now has become a prominent part of the New Zealand white ball set-up. In February 2017, he was included in the New Zealand squad for the T20I series against South Africa. He was included in the ODI squad against India in 2017 but didn’t get a chance to showcase his skills, on the 2023 tour he was included once again in the team, this time he got to play the first two ODI but failed to deliver.

Philips is a clean striker of the ball and his ability to demolish any bowling attack makes him a valuable player in the shorter formats. He was also part of the Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League and impressed one and all with some quickfire knocks. On the back of some brilliant performances, Phillips was picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL auctions and will be one of the players to watch out for in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. The all-rounder plays around the globe for various different T20 and T10 franchises, he is a live wire on the field and is very entertaining to watch with the bat in hand.
