Akash Madhwal is a professional cricketer, who aims to represent the Indian cricket team Internationally. Akash was born on 25 November 1993 in the Roorkee region of Uttarakhand state, India. He is a right arm medium fast bowler who specializes in taking wickets and maintaining a decent economy rate at the same time. Akash Madhwal is known to have a close friendship with Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant, as they both used to live in the same neighborhood of Roorkee. Akash, after debuting for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League season 2023 came into the limelight by his economical bowling performances.
Akash’s family originally belongs to the Dungra village, under Sult block of Almora district, Uttarakhand. As Akash’s father Ghana Nand began working in the Indian Army in Roorkee, they shifted from Dungra village to Roorkee. Akash completed his secondary and higher secondary education from the Roorkee Public Senior Secondary School. After that he went to College of Engineering in Roorkee, to further continue his studies in civil engineering. After becoming an engineer, he decided to leave his engineering job and chose cricket as his career. He learned his bowling skills back in the day, when he used to play with tennis balls. He learned to control the ball and the skills to bowl a yorker.

Akash’s entry in competitive cricket happened when he was 24 years of age. He was called up for the trials in the Uttarakhand Cricket Association, as it got affiliated by BCCI in 2018. Akash’s bowling caught the eye of head coach and former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer. He along with Manish Jha suggested Akash to start practicing with red ball. Akash was then selected in the Uttarakhand’s state team and his bowling skills were further enhanced there. It was on 8 November 2019, when Akash played his domestic cricket T20 debut match for Uttarakhand team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the 2019-20 season.
It was on 25 December 2019, when Akash played his first class debut match for Uttarakhand in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy. In the 2020-21 season of Vijay Hazare Trophy, Akash played his List A debut match. Prior to the 2023 domestic season, Akash was appointed as the captain of the Uttarakhand T20 team. For the 2021 season of Indian Premier League (IPL) Akash was selected by Royal Challengers Bangalore as their net bowler. In the 2022 season of IPL, Mumbai Indians signed Akash, However he didn’t get to play any match in that season. In the 2023 season of IPL, Akash played his debut IPL match against Punjab Kings. He got his best bowling figures in an eliminator match against Lucknow Super Giants, in which Akash took 5 wickets and gave only 5 runs.
