Will West Indies vs Ireland series go ahead?

The postponement of the West Indies vs Ireland ODI adds a lot of confusion to the ongoing series. According to a joint release by Ireland and the West Indies Cricket Board, both boards are in discussions to review the match schedule. They are working out all the possibilities. The remaining matches are scheduled on January 14 and January 17, with the final match being a T20I. However, looking at the situation, both boards will be determined to ensure the situation is not similar to the one faced in the USA.

In the first ODI, West Indies were in a difficult position after Ireland chose to bowl. They were reduced to 62/4 with Andy McBrine taking two wickets. But, Shamarh Brooks and Kieron Pollard rescued the West Indies. Brooks, making his debut, made steady progress with Pollard. The West Indies skipper reached his fifty and he celebrated his landmark with three consecutive sixes off McBrine.

Brooks also notched up his fifty and he hammered two sixes off Curtis Campher. Pollard fell for 69 and Brooks missed out on a chance to score a century as he fell for 93. The exploits of Pollard and Brooks helped West Indies reach 269. Ireland were on track at 173/2, with Balbirnie and Harry Tector hitting fifties.

But, Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd took three wickets each as Ireland lost eight wickets for 72 runs to lose by 24 runs.
