Delhi Capitals enjoyed a brilliant first half of the VIVO IPL 2021 season. With Delhi sitting at the top of the table, scoring six wins from eight matches, their captain Rishabh Pant is looking ahead to the second half of the IPL season. Pant, who attended his first training session with the team on Friday, expressed his excitement about meeting his teammates after completing his quarantine period. “It’s really nice to meet everyone after coming out of quarantine. It’s been great meeting the teammates here in training,” he said, according to a Delhi Capitals’ release.

Rishabh Pant added that he is currently focussing on getting used to the conditions in the UAE. “It’s pretty hot here in the UAE. I was trying to sit on the balcony during my quarantine period as much as possible to get used to the conditions. But, it’s still felt quite hot when I took part in my first practice session here. I’m just trying to get used to the conditions now and hopefully, I will be fully acclimatized to the conditions in 2-3 days,” he added.

Delhi Capitals are currently at the top of the table with 12 points from 8 matches. The wicketkeeper-batsman said that the team will look to continue its brilliant performance from the first phase of the season. “Our ultimate goal is to win the trophy, but we are going to focus on our process. Hopefully, we can continue to play the way we did in the first half of the IPL 2021 season and we can go on and win the IPL trophy this year,” added Pant.

‘Doesn’t matter what we’ve done in first half of the season’

Delhi Capitals are set to take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 22 September after the remainder of the IPL season resumes. Their head coach Ricky Ponting had recently said that the players have shown great intensity during the pre-season camp. “I have been waiting for four months to come back to the Delhi Capitals camp,” he said.

“I have such a great time when I work with the team and it’s a great time in my calendar year. I have been keeping a close eye on what’s been happening here. I have been speaking to the coaching staff here and they have done a great job so far (in the pre-season camp). You can see with the intensity and the attitude shown by the players that it’s been a really worthwhile camp so far. I am really excited about what we’ve got coming up in the next four-five weeks,” said the 46-year-old.

The former Australian skipper believes that Delhi’s performance in the first half of the IPL season doesn’t matter anymore, and that the side will have to re-build again. “It doesn’t matter what we’ve done in the first half of the season. It’s been four months since when we played some really good cricket, so we really have to start again. We have to build ourselves as we go along in the tournament and make sure that we are playing our best cricket at the back end of the tournament. Our performance in the first half of the tournament was because of how well we played and how hard we worked, but I don’t think we played our best cricket,” said the head coach.
