Virat Kohli was reprimanded for breaching the Indian Premier League Code of Conduct during RCB's IPL 2021 match against SRH.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli was reprimanded for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during their IPL 2021 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). RCB won the match against SRH at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday by 6 runs. However, Kohli had made headlines for showing his anger during the first innings.
“Mr Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” a statement from the IPL said.
It is worth noting, however, that no fine or suspension of any kind will be handed out for the offence.
Earlier, in the match against SRH, Virat Kohli was upset after he was dismissed for 33 off 29 balls. As a result, he took out his anger on a chair in the RCB dugout.
As he reached the dugout, Kohli’s frustrations boiled over and hit the chair with his bat. His RCB teammates simply looked on in silence.
However, a video of Kohli hitting the chair went viral on social media. Many poked fun at the expresiveness of the RCB and India skipper.
Kohli fell for 33 for the second successive IPL game. Even against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2021 opening game, he managed the same number of runs.
However, Kohli’s low returns with the bat mattered little as RCB went on to notch their second win in as many games.
The game was a low-scoring affair but entertaining to watch nevertheless. RCB managed only 149 batting first, thanks largely to a half-century from Glenn Maxwell – his first since 2016.
SRH, despite starting the innings well, failed to get over the line as the Chepauk track got harder to bat on. The win meant that Virat Kohli’s men went top of the table.
