Virat Kohli is currently undergoing a ‘lean patch’ in his career. His century drought has now extended to two-and-a-half years. During the ODI series against West Indies, he averaged just 8.26. After another failure in the Kolkata T20I, there are some concerns being raised about Virat Kohli. However, according to a report in Cricbuzz, Virat Kohli might be rested for the T20I series against Sri Lanka which will begin on February 24.

The Sri Lanka series will begin in Lucknow and Dharamshala and it will be followed by two Tests. There is also a suggestion that Kohli might miss the Mohali Test. He might come back for the Bangalore Day-Night Test. It was during the Pink Ball Test in 2019 that Kohli hit his last century. It was 136 against Bangladesh in Kolkata. Kohli might want to produce something special in Bangalore. It is a venue that holds very special memories for him due to his association with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Ravindra Jadeja Back for Sri Lanka Series, Rohit Sharma the New Captain?

Ravindra Jadeja is reportedly in Lucknow which is an indication that he might play the three T20Is. Jadeja was undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA following his injury after the end of the Kanpur Test against New Zealand. He is currently in quarantine and COVID-19 Tests have been done on him. If he is negative, he might play.

Along with Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami might come back for the series. Bumrah and Shami were rested for managing their workload. However, the major question will be who will be the new Test captain for the Sri Lanka series. After Virat Kohli stepped down in dramatic fashion from Tests following the series loss to South Africa, there has been plenty of speculation.

KL Rahul captained the India side for the Johannesburg Test after Virat Kohli was left out to back spasms. However, it is widely believed that Rohit Sharma might be the new captain of the Indian Test team. This will mean that just like Kohli, Rohit will assume charge of all formats for the first time in his career. Sri Lanka are currently undergoing a torrid time in Australia, currently trailing 0-4 in the five-match series. India, on the other hand, won the ODI series against the West Indies and won the first match in a comprehensive fashion. A win for India in Kolkata will continue their dominance of the West Indies in limited-overs cricket.
