Sri Lanka cricketers Dhananjaya Lakshan and Ishan Jayaratne have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Bangladesh tour this month. Lakshan and Jayaratne, who have returned positive results for the virus, are part of the provisional 28-man squad for England. Both pace bowling all-rounders are now in isolation for 14 days. However, since they are not part of the 18-man squad that leaves for Bangladesh on May 16, it gives them a chance to recover in time for the England series.

As reported by Daily FT, 40 Sri Lankan players have received the first jab of the vaccine against COVID-19 on Saturday (May 8) at the National Blood Bank after a rapid antigen test was conducted.

Sri Lanka will tour Bangladesh for 3 ODIs starting on May 23 before they head to England for three T20Is, followed by as many ODIs, starting on June 23. Before the white-ball series in England, the touring Sri Lanka team were scheduled to play two practice matches against Kent (50-over format) on June 18 and Sussex (T20) on June 20.

However, Somerset announced the cancellation of all tour matches of overseas teams against the county side including their tour match against New Zealand ahead of the 2-match Test series.

Sri Lanka to host India in July

Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that India will tour Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is in July.

While the Test squad will remain in England, India will send a separate white-ball squad to Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series. India will play the WTC final, on June 18, against New Zealand at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The final was previously scheduled at Lords, in London, but it was moved to Southampton for logistical purposes.

With India sending a white-ball squad to Sri Lanka in July, the chances of IPL 2021 resuming in the near future are out. India has the final of the World Test Championship scheduled in June.
