After a thrilling one-off Women’s Ashes Test, current and former players alongside fans asked for five-day Tests as well. While four-day games mostly end in a draw, five days will produce more results. And, their comments came after England and Australia played a nail-biting draw in Canberra on Sunday.

However, Australia’s brave declaration set up an interesting fourth and final day at Canberra’s Manuka Oval where England were in a winning position but eventually fell short of a record run chase and the rain-hit Women’s Ashes contest has ended in a draw as well.

“The greatest Test match that I have been luckily enough to be involved in…Now for 5 day Test please,” tweeted Australia player-turned-commentator Lisa Sthalekar.

Meanwhile, the issue has been discussed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) but women’s Test matches are still played for four days. “It’s for the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee to discuss this issue,” an ICC spokesperson said when he was asked about the possibility of women’s tests being played for five days like the men’s Tests as well.

Meanwhile, England captain Heather Knight has backed the idea before the start of the one-off test match, especially women’s tests hardly takes place. Her teammate Kate Cross has said women cricketers were fit enough to play five days Tests.

“I think we’re ready for five days of cricket now,” the pacer said in Canberra. “If you play five days of cricket you’re probably going to get more results out of women’s test matches so maybe that would be something we could look into moving forward.”
