Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw admitted that the defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, was a tough one to digest. The clash witnessed a loss by a margin of four wickets for the Delhi-based franchise, with the encounter held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Sunday. Shaw smashed 60 runs off 34 deliveries in an innings comprising of seven boundaries and three sixes. Pant accumulated 51 runs from 35 balls with the knock including three fours and two maximums. Shimron Hetmyer provided valuable support, smashing 37 from 24 deliveries in an innings that comprised of three boundaries and a six. DC posted a total of 172 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, setting a target of 173 runs for CSK. However, CSK chased down the total in 19.4 overs.

“The entire team takes the responsibility for our performance”

“At the moment, we have to back each other. The entire team takes the responsibility for our performance, whether we win or lose. We’ll try and come back stronger in the next match. It’s a tough loss to digest for the team. However, we have one more match through which we can qualify for the Final and I believe in each and everyone in the team. They are all great players – talent and skill-wise. I really believe that we can do something special in the next match and go through to the Final,” said Shaw in the post-match press conference.

“I am happy with my knock, but I feel I should have played a longer innings. This is a lesson for me. When I am in the same situation again, I’ll try to bat for a longer time,” added the DC opener.

MS Dhoni smashed 18 runs from 6 balls in the death overs, to help CSK reign supreme.

“MS Dhoni is something different, everyone knows that. We have seen him finish games so many times and it’s nothing new for him or for us to see him do that. He’s definitely a dangerous player whenever he bats. I feel very lucky to be in this atmosphere and get a chance to watch him as a batsman and a leader. He took the game away from us.”

“Obviously it’s very disappointing”

DC skipper Rishabh Pant similarly felt that the defeat against CSK was disappointing.

“Obviously it’s very disappointing, don’t have enough words to describe how we are feeling right now. The only thing we can do is rectify our mistakes and move on to the next one. I thought that Tom bowled beautifully throughout the match, last over unfortunately went for runs. I thought the bowler who is having a great day, it’s better to use him for the last over. I thought the score was decent but they got off to a flier in the powerplay and we didn’t get enough wickets and that was the main difference. As a cricketer, we are going to rectify our mistakes, gonna learn from it and move on to the next one. Hopefully we can win and play the final,” he stated.
