England kept their cool to reach the finish line over Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Saturday, November 5. With this, they have qualified for the semi-finals and hosts and defending champions Australia have been knocked out from the marquee event as well. However, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first.

They posted 141 runs in 20 overs where the opener Pathum Nissanka smashed a quickfire 67 as well. For England, Mark Wood picked up 3 for 26. While chasing, England managed to reach the target with 2 balls and 4 wickets to spare.

After the win, England captain Jos Buttler said, “Didn’t enjoy that match, how close it was. We just had to find a way to win that game.”

Meanwhile all-rounder Ben Stokes smashed a quickfire 42* and helped his side as well. While talking about the veteran all-rounder, Jos Buttler praised him also.

He said, “These situations are built for him, he can play a lot of roles for us in this T20 setup. They got off to a really good start, and we felt the wicket would play that way since it was a used wicket. But the way Adil Rashid got us back was wonderful. Lot of people look at the end product with him, he dosen’t have the wickets but he has been bowling well.”

Jos Buttler also spoke about the young Sam Curran who is also a key player on the side. And, he also added that they are thinking about the semi-final now as well.

“Sam (Curran) keeps growing and growing, he’s a key member of this team and he likes to be in these tough moments. I think Alex (Hales) in that one over really took the game out of Sri Lanka. (On Adelaide) Excited to go there, we just needed to find a way to win today. Now it is time to go there and think about the semi-finals,” Jos Buttler concluded.
