Sri Lanka inflicted a crushing defeat on The Netherlands on Friday in the 2021 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Dutch recorded the lowest score of the competition so far after being bowled out for just 44 runs in 10 overs. The Lankan Lions chased the total in 7.1 overs and lost a couple of wickets in the process. Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga bowled magnificent spells, taking three wickets each. Wicketkeeper Kusal Perera played a fine knock for the Lankans as well as he scored 33 runs off 24 deliveries to comfortably take his side to a comprehensive victory in the competition.

Hasaranga and Kumara were the pick of the bowlers for the Lankan Lions on the day. Kumara bowled three overs and picked three wickets for just seven runs. Hasaranga, on the other hand, conceded nine runs as he also picked three wickets in three overs. Maheesh Theekshana picked a couple of wickets on the day and veteran cricketer Dushmantha Chameera bagged one wicket in two overs.

The Dutch batting card cut a sorry picture. No one apart from Colin Ackermann got into double figures and he only made 11 runs. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, had a pretty easy time chasing down the total. They did lose a couple of wickets in the process but the victory was never in doubt. Perera’s unbeaten 33 off 24 deliveries ensured a victory for the Lankan Lions. Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka were the two batters who were dismissed for Sri Lanka and they made zero and six runs respectively.

Brandon Glover bowled three overs for The Netherlands and picked one wicket for 12 runs. Paul Van Meekeren picked one for 20 runs in two overs.

NAMIBIA BEAT IRELAND BY EIGHT WICKETS

Namibia recorded a fantastic victory over Ireland earlier in the day as Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus made a fine half-century. Namibia chased down a modest total with eight wickets in hand. Ireland had posted 125-8 in the first innings and Namibia made 126-2 in 18.2 overs.

Namibian openers Craig Williams and Zane Green recorded good scores but the rate of scoring was a bit slow. Williams scored 15 runs off 16 deliveries. Green made 24 runs off 32 deliveries.

Skipper Gerhard Erasmus played a captain’s knock as he scored a brilliant half-century. Erasmus made an unbeaten 53 runs off 49 deliveries in an innings that included three boundaries and one maximum. David Wiese also played a fine cameo, scoring 28 runs off just 14 deliveries. He hit one boundary and a couple of maximums.

Curtis Campher bowled a good spell despite the loss. He picked a couple of wickets for the team in three overs and conceded only 14 runs.

Ireland got off to a very good start but their middle order completely collapsed. Openers Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien gave the team a good start as they constructed a 62-run partnership for the first wicket. Stirling made 38 runs off 24 deliveries and O’Brien made 25 runs off 24 deliveries. Skipper Andrew Balbirne made 21 runs but he took 28 deliveries to get to the score.

Namibian bowler Jan Frylinck had a fine performance as he picked three wickets in four overs and conceded just 21 runs. David Wiese had a good time with the ball on the day as well, picking two wickets for 22 runs in four overs. JJ Smit and Bernard Scholz picked one wicket each as well.
