India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has set his sights on T20 World Cup 2022 triumph after leading Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL triumph in their maiden season. The high on confidence Indian star will return to the international action when India hosts South Africa for the first of five-match T20I series, starting from June 9. And he will be raring to go in the Team India jersey as well.

His return to the national team comes after facing a difficult few years due to an injury. In 2019, a lower-back injury stood as a hurdle in his career. He underwent a surgery in the United Kingdom and was treated under the same doctor who treated him during India’s tour of England in 2018 and the 2019 World Cup. He was never ready for the surgery but the thought that he is not doing enough justice to his potential and his place at Team India motivated him towards it and helped him develop a stronger mindset.

“Absolutely to win the World Cup for India no matter what happens,” he said after Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2022 triumph. “I am going to give it everything I have. Always been that kind of guy, to put the team first. For me the goal will be simple: to make sure my team gets it the most. Playing for India has always been a kind of dream come true no matter how many games I have played. It has always been a pleasure for me to represent the country. The kind of love and support I have got it is only from the Indian team’s point of view. Long term, short term, I want to win the World Cup no matter what happens.”

T20 World Cup 2022: Hardik Pandya won his fifth IPL title

Pandya proved his all-round performance in the IPL 2022 as he played important knocks and also hit the 140 kmph mark with the ball to mark his return to full fitness. He, moreover, showed signs of maturity as a cricketer after being named as the captain for Gujarat Titans and feels that he is lucky to win the IPL title five times after his first stint with Mumbai Indians.

“The four that I have won before this are equally special too. Winning the IPL is always special. I consider myself very lucky that I have played five finals, and have lifted the trophy five times,” Hardik said after the win. “Obviously this will leave a legacy because we are a new franchise, playing for the first time, and we are champions in the first season. But the four that I have won before this were equally special.”
