T20 WC Warm-up Match: Rohit Sharma stars as India thrash Australia

Team India opener Rohit Sharma delivered a fantastic performance with the bat, setting the stage for a comprehensive win against Australia.

Team India opener Rohit Sharma made his presence felt with a fine half-century, to help the national team maintain its unbeaten run in the warm-up matches of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. Rohit smashed 60 runs off 41 deliveries, to help the Indian team chase down a target of 153 runs in 17.5 overs, pulling off a triumph by a margin of nine wickets. The 34-year-old’s knock comprised of five boundaries and three sixes, before walking off retired hurt. Fellow opener KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav provided quality support, accumulating 39 and 38 runs respectively off 31 and 27 deliveries. All-rounder Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten till the end, with the former scoring 14 runs from 8 balls.

Steve Smith’s 57 takes Australia to 152 against India

Steve Smith stepped up with a fine half-century to help his team post a total of 152 runs for the loss of five wickets. Smith smashed 57 runs off 48 deliveries in an innings comprising of seven boundaries. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis provided quality support, accumulating 41 runs from 25 balls with four fours and a maximum to his credit. Glenn Maxwell seemed quite confident as well, chipping in with a 28-ball 37. Maxwell seems to be in the same vein of form as he displayed in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Matthew Wade ensured the perfect finish to proceedings, chipping with a boundary off the final delivery.

Ravichandran Ashwin was very impressive in the two overs which he was permitted to bowl, accounting for two dismissals. Rahul Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a wicket apiece.

England beat New Zealand by 13 runs to get back to winning ways

England are back to winning ways following a triumph by a margin of 13 runs against New Zealand in a warm-up encounter. The former have made amends for their defeat against India in their opening practice match. Jos Buttler smashed 73 runs from 51 deliveries in an innings comprising of 11 boundaries and two sixes. Jonny Bairstow and Sam Billings chipped in with 30 and 27 runs respectively. Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand, accounting for three dismissals.

The New Zealand chase never really enjoyed much promise at any stage. Martin Guptill was the top-run scorer, accumulating 41 runs from 20 deliveries. Guptill’s knock included four boundaries and three sixes. Sodhi made his presence felt with the bat as well, scoring 25 runs from 16 balls. His knock comprised of a four and two maximums.

Mark Wood was in spectacular form for England, accounting for four dismissals. Spinner Adil Rashid was quite impressive as well, chipping in with three wickets. Liam Livingstone and Chris Woakes accounted for a dismissal apiece.
