Australian batting legend and former Sydney Sixers captain Steve Smith returns to the franchise for the Big Bash League’s 12th season. Smith led the Sydney-based team to their first BBL victory in 2011. He has been signed as a replacement player for the forthcoming season of the coveted domestic tournament.
Steve Smith broke into the forefront as a bowling all-rounder, and he enjoyed great success with the Sydney Sixers in 2011, leading the team to victory in Brad Haddin’s absence. Moises Henriques, the current Sixers captain and Smith’s compatriot, welcomed the batting great with open arms and wishes him a long career with the team.

“Steve Smith is a Sixer. He has been part of this club from the start, and he will be part of this club for as long as he wants to be. He has always known that the door is open to him playing with us again and we are really excited that our fans will get to see him in four matches in the latter half of the season, including two at the SCG. He’s focused on the Test summer right now but once that is over, we will welcome him back with open arms,” Henriques said on Monday.

Smith shows support for Warner

Smith, who captained Australia to a 419-run victory over the West Indies in the absence of an ailing Pat Cummins, stated, “From my point of view, barring for life from leadership is just fundamentally wrong.” Like me, David served his sentence. For us, he is a group leader, and both on and off the field, he is doing a fantastic job. He has had a challenging day and a challenging week. Davey has undoubtedly found it to be more of a diversion while going through it himself. David has expressed that he is done and ready to move on. He has our utmost support. I’m hoping he can have a really big series with the bat for us against South Africa,” Smith added.
