Steve Smith may be unstoppable as a Test batsman for Australia. His exploits on the field make him one of the greatest Test players in the modern era. If Virat Kohli is the greatest limited-overs cricketer, then Smith is second to none in Tests. But, modern technology has managed to do what England’s cricket team has failed. For one hour, Steve Smith had a harrowing experience as he was struck in the team lift.

On Steve Smith’s Instagram account, he posted a total of 10 stories. Each story outlined the ordeal that he underwent recently in Melbourne. In the story, he mentions that he is on his floor but the lift doors have not opened. As Smith waited, he sat on the floor and he was given candy by Marnus Labuschagne from the small gap in the door. After over 55 minutes, Smith said, “Safely back in my room, finally out of the lift. That certainly was an experience, 55 minutes I’ll probably never get back.”

Steve Smith recollects experience

In the entire Instagram story, Steve Smith tried to have some fun. He posted a video of himself dancing to one song but he quickly got bored of it. Later, the maintenance crew worked for about 35 minutes. After that, the door was opened and Smith managed to come out to applause from his teammates and people.

Steve Smith has had a quiet Ashes so far, managing a score of 93 in the Adelaide Pink Ball Test. In every series that he has played in the Ashes since 2013, Smith has managed to score at least one century. Currently, he has 11 centuries against England alone. He is on an elite list of players for scoring a fair amount of runs against Australia’s arch-rivals.

The fourth Test will begin in Sydney on January 5, a venue where Steve Smith has a brilliant record. During the series against India, he hit his only century against them on the tour that they lost 1-2. In 2014, Steve Smith hit a century in Sydney that helped Australia achieve a 5-0 whitewash.

COVID-19 looms over Sydney Ashes Test

The coronavirus pandemic continues to cause chaos in the Ashes series. Australia batsman Travis Head has tested positive for COVID-19. This comes after seven members of the England support staff and Match Referee David Boon tested positive. In the latest round of PCR and Rapid Antigen Testing, Head was found to be positive but asymptomatic. According to Victoria state Government health protocol, Head will have to be in isolation for seven days. This means that he will miss the Sydney Test.

Australia and England are slated to fly out to Sydney in separate chartered flights. The entire Australia cricket team underwent PCR and Rapid Antigen Tests. The status of the Test could be known on January 1.
