The second One-Day International (ODI) between England and South Africa takes place on Saturday, January 29 at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. The match is critical for the English team if they are to remain in the three-match ODI series. South Africa defeated England in the first 50-over match and gained a 1-0 lead in the series. Jos Buttler and company will want to shift gears and get a win so that South Africa does not take an insurmountable lead. Rassie van der Dussen impressed on his comeback to ODI cricket, scoring a superb century to help the Proteas take a 1-0 lead.

Jason Roy fought hard with the bat for England, keeping the Three Lions in the run chase. Roy produced a great century (113 off 91 balls) and must be relieved that his place in the ODI team is safe. Jofra Archer will seek to improve on his poor performance in the first ODI on Friday. Temba Bavuma will remain South Africa’s white-ball captain for as long as his teammates and management desire. Bavuma, who stated in November that he would not make a hasty choice regarding his leadership future after South Africa were eliminated from the T20 World Cup by the Netherlands, has subsequently had “conversations with the right people and remains dedicated to the role.”

Pitch

Bloemfontein will host the second ODI, which is expected to be a batting-friendly surface. However, there will be some juice on the wicket, and the pacers will have a say in the game. Both clubs have potent batting lineups and may rely on their batters to hit any type of target. As a result, the team that wins the toss may choose to bowl first.
