Mohammed Shami, a senior professional in the Indian team and a pacer, is out of the next ODI series against Bangladesh due to a hand injury. He might as well miss the two-match Test series that is set to follow the three white-ball contests if the recuperation is not completed in a timely manner. On Sunday, December 4, the first game of the ODI series is slated to take place.

The 33-year-old veteran pacer is an essential member of the Indian ODI team, particularly at this time when they are gearing up for the ODI World Cup that will be held in India next year. Even though India has a number of options for fast bowlers in the white-ball team, the Test series will present a significant challenge because the Men in Blue must win each Test coming ahead in order to qualify for the World Test Championship finals.

India is in a spot of bother

Jasprit Bumrah is not part of the Test side as well so that would mean that the likes of Umesh Yadav and Siraj will have to take more responsibility. Jadeja too may miss the Test series. Earlier the trio of Jadeja, Bumrah and Shami were ruled out of the home T20I series against South Africa. Shami just made it to the T20 WC as Bumrah’s replacement.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team, and Rahul Dravid, the coach, would be hoping that Shami would recuperate quickly and return to the game, especially for the Test match. India cannot afford to keep another player out of the match with Ravindra Jadeja already ruled out and Jasprit Bumrah out of the international setup due to injury.

The hosts will have the advantage in the games played in Bangladesh, therefore India will need Shami’s red-ball expertise to take on the formidable opponents. Shami has taken 216 wickets in just 60 Test matches, which speaks volumes about his bowling prowess.
