The prestigious Ranji Trophy is underway after the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. The competition resumed after a one season break induced by the Covid-19 pandemic. The remodeled format offered only three games per team with the table toppers proceeding to the knockouts. The number of games went down from 169 in 2019-20 to 65 this season. The knockouts of Ranji Trophy is now being played two months after the completion of league season.
Bengal, Jharkhand, Mumbai, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh will fight it out in the quarters for a place in the semi finals. In the quarters finals played between June 4 and June 8, Bengal will face-off Jharkhand in the first match. Mumbai will take on Uttarakhand in the next match. Karnataka will go up against Uttar Pradesh in the third match while Punjab faces Madhya Pradesh in the fourth match. The winners of the quarter finals will play in the semi final to be held between June 16 and 20. The final of the season will be from June 20.

This season’s Ranji Trophy had some noteworthy performances from the bowlers. Mumbai’s Shams Mulani is the leading wicket taker of the season so far. He has scalped 34 wickets in 7 innings at an average of 14.47. Maharashtra bowler Sateyajeet Bachhav comes in at second with 21 wickets to his name. Hyderabad’s Ravi Teja has taken 20 wickets in 6 innings. Jharkhand’s Shahbaz Nadeem has also taken 20 wickets in 8 innings. Let’s take a look at the leading wicket takers of the season.
