Rahul Dravid is a former cricketer who represented India in all three formats of the game. Dravid is currently serving as the head coach of the Indian national team. Born on 11th January 1973, he is one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. A textbook batsman with great technique, Dravid was a symbol of patience and concentration. Despite his reputation for playing defensively, he can pace his innings according to the situation.

Dravid’s early stints in ODI was rather unsuccessful. However, he managed to impress following his Test debut against England on 20th June 1996. His contrasting performances in the longer format earned him the tag of being a Test specialist. Dravid’s rise in the ODI format was during India’s tour of New Zealand in 1998/99. He emerged as India’s top scorer of the series after scoring 309 runs with an average of 77.25.

Rahul Dravid’s most memorable innings came in a match at Eden Garden in Kolkata during Australia’s tour of India. Australia were looking unstoppable after 15 consecutive Test wins. India lost the first Test match in a rather easy win for the Aussies. In the second Test at Eden Gardens, the Aussies bowled out India for 171 in the first innings and enforced a follow-on. Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman came together when India needed another 42 runs to avoid innings defeat. They put on a historic partnership of 376 runs with Dravid scoring 180, thereby setting a target of 384. India put an end to the winning streak of Australia after the bowlers backed up the batters. Dravid has also captained India in 79 matches. In the Indian Premier League, Dravid played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008, 2009, and 2010 before signing for Rajasthan Royals, where he played till 2013. He is the fourth-highest scoring batsman in Tests behind Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis.
