As in the previous two seasons, there won't be the first round of games prior to the Super 12. Teams will be equally divided into four groups of 5 each. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super Eights. The top four teams will then advance to the semifinals.
The T20 World Cup 2022 may have ended, but the competition for spots in the following tournament has already started. Twelve teams have already qualified for the competition in 2024. Up to 20 teams, or four more than this year, will compete in 2024. As in the previous two seasons, there won’t be the first round of games prior to the Super 12. The West Indies and the United States have already qualified automatically because they are the hosts. While the West Indies hosted the T20 World Cup in 2010, where England won their first championship, the United States will be hosting an ICC competition for the first time. The top eight teams from the T20 World Cup 2022—have also advanced. India, Pakistan, South Africa, and the Netherlands from Group 2, while New Zealand, England, Australia, and Sri Lanka advance from Group 1.

Outside of the aforementioned teams, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are the next two best-ranked teams, and as such, they have also secured their spots for the WC. The Afghans are ranked just one spot below Bangladesh in 10th place with 217 ranking points in the ICC T20I team rankings. The ICC set a deadline of November 14, 2022, for teams to achieve the automatic qualification.
