When Glenn McGrath retired from international cricket in 2007, many felt that Australia would struggle to fill the void of accuracy and metronomic pressure. But, almost a decade later, Josh Hazlewood has stepped up to become one of the greatest fast bowlers in the modern era. There is plenty to like about Josh Hazlewood. Tall, accurate, and nagging at all times, Hazlewood has all the attributes to being an all-round successful bowler. His Ashes performances in 2017 and 2019 of the success that he can achieve. He was part of the victorious Under-19 World Cup in 2010 in New Zealand. But, it took four years of strengthening and reconditioning to ensure that he was in contention for a lead role in Australia’s Test squad.

When his debut came in Brisbane against India, Hazlewood did not disappoint. He went on to cement his reputation as one of the best in the business. His 4/35 in the quarterfinal against Pakistan in Adelaide during the 2015 ICC World Cup enhanced his reputation. In that same year, Hazlewood became the first man to take a five-wicket haul in the Pink Ball Test against New Zealand.

Hazlewood has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts in limited-overs cricket in the last couple of years. His stint with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL led to Australia successfully winning the ICC World T20 2021 for the first time. Hazlewood impressed on each occasion with a wonderful economy rate. He is just past 30 and if he can maintain his fitness levels, there is no stopping Hazlewood from reaching 500 Test wickets just like his idol Glenn McGrath.

Josh Hazlewood made his ODI debut against England in Southampton in 2010. Three years later, he made his Twenty20 International debut against West Indies in Brisbane in 2013. His Test debut came against India in 2014 in Brisbane.

During the 2017 Auckland ODI against New Zealand, Hazlewood shared a fifty-run stand for the final wicket with Marcus Stoinis. His contribution was 0 and he had faced 0 balls. When he was run-out, he became the first individual to be out for a diamond duck in a 50-run stand.
