Pakistan and New Zealand locked horns on the 4th day of the in the 1st test match at the National Stadium in Karachi. New Zealand are visiting Pakistan after a very long time and this promises to be an exciting series with both teams looking well matches. New Zealand have scripted a brilliant comeback back and are now ahead in the game at the end of day 4, New Zealand went on to dominate play on day four as well. Let’s have a look at some of the talking points of the day.

Kane Williamson and Ish Sodhi played were unbeaten in the first session

New Zealand started the day with a score reading 440/6 leading only by 2 runs with Kane Williamson and Ish Sodhi at the crease. The pair were slow and steady but made sure they were unseparated at Lunch. The duo stretched a brilliant partnership today in the afternoon session when Ish Sodhi fell for a brilliant knock of 65. After Sodhi’s dismissal, Southee and Wagner fell for ducks while Ajaz Patel remained unbeaten on 0. Kane Williamson scored a magnificent double century and this was his 5th in test cricket. New Zealand to 612/9 declared after attaining a healthy lead.

Pakistan’s reply

The lead was 174 when Pakistan came out to bat first and the opening duo of Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique got off to a steady start. The opening pair put on 47 before Shafique was dismissed by Michael Bracewell for 17. Shan Masood was looking secure while he was there, but he fell at the fag end of the day for 10 LBW to Ish Sodhi. Imam is currently batting on 45 off 83 balls alongside nightwatchman Nauman Ali who is on 4. Pakistan ended Day 4 in their second innings at 77/2 after 31 overs. Pakistan trail by 97 runs with 8 wickets in hand. The match is heading towards a draw unless something dramatic happens.
