Delhi Capitals suffered their first loss in five matches in the VIVO IPL 2021 season after losing by 3 wickets to the Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah on Tuesday. Batting first, Delhi had posted a total of 127/9 in their 20 overs, before Kolkata Knight Riders chased down the score in 18.2 overs for the loss of seven wickets. There was a point in the run-chase when DC made the men in purple uncomfortable, however, a much-needed cameo from Sunil Narine ensured that the Knight Riders were out of a troublesome situation. Then, Nitish Rana scored the winning runs as he capped off an outstanding knock. Despite the defeat, Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Pravin Amre stated that the team’s coaching group was happy with the effort put in by the players in the match.

“We know that there will be ups and downs in the IPL and we know that we are going to have matches like this one, however the coaching group was very happy with the effort put in by the entire team in this match. After being in a difficult situation, Rishabh Pant played till the last over of the innings, which helped us get a fighting total on the board. And even while bowling, the players fought very well and ensured that the chase wasn’t a cakewalk for KKR,” said Amre, as per a Delhi Capitals’ press release.

‘Avesh Khan put up an extraordinary performance’

While speaking about the positives from the match, Amre said, “Avesh Khan put up an extraordinary performance and Axar Patel bowled very well. The latter conceded only 7 runs in 17 balls apart from being hit for a six off his second delivery in the innings. These are the positives from the game. We could see that the players can perform under pressure.”

Amre also reckons that the loss against KKR will motivate the Delhi players to put in additional effort in the upcoming games. “When you lose, you pull your socks up for the upcoming games and that’s what our mindset is going to be. Every game is important and we will give our 100 percent for each and every game,” he added. Delhi Capitals will take on Mumbai Indians in their next match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Anrich Nortje on Ricky Ponting

Recently, Anrich Nortje described his experience of working with head coach Ricky Ponting in a positive way. Nortje said, “It’s great having Ricky Ponting in our camp. I love his chats and he breaks things down very nicely and makes everything easy to understand. He’s quite clear on what he wants. I am trying to learn as much as possible from him. We enjoy working with him and hopefully, we can grow as a unit with him.”

When asked if he has shared some tricks of the trade with young fast bowler Avesh Khan, the South African said, “Some of us have been looking at how Avesh is landing his yorkers and how he has been going about things. He has been so good for us. It was especially nice to see him land his yorkers in the first half of the season in India. It’s been so nice to see him progress as a bowler. All in all, he has got a lot of skill and I think he has got a bright future ahead of him.”
