Alyssa Healy is one of the game’s most dangerous hitters. She has extensive international experience, having played in 140 T20Is, 94 ODIs, and six Tests for Australia. While her destructive batting has gotten her a lot of attention, Healy has also gotten a lot of attention for her statements in the press and on social media. These are three instances when the Australian hitter sparked controversy with her statements.

Getting involved in the BGT 2020-21 without context

The Indian contingent was dissatisfied with the facilities in Brisbane during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The Indian team referred to the hotel allocated to them as a “jail,” which irritated Healy. She tweeted that the women’s teams from Australia and New Zealand had previously stayed at the same hotel and that the Indian team did not need to make a fuss over it. Following this post, the 32-year-old Australian batter received a barrage of trolling from Indian supporters.

The argument over the clashing of the Women’s T20 Challenge and WBBL in 2020

Alyssa Healy was dissatisfied with the BCCI’s decision to hold the women’s IPL or T20 Challenge at the same time as the women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in Australia in 2020. During the same time, the women’s Big Bash League, which was set to take place in Australia from October 17 to November 29, began, giving many foreign players the choice of playing in the WBBL or the WIPL. If both T20 franchise competitions conflict, Indian women’s cricketers who have signed contracts with WBBL franchises would have to make the same decision. Healy, who hit the winning run against India in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, believes that both competitions colliding will be detrimental to women’s cricket.

Controversy after the CWG 2022 Final

Australia overcame India in the 2022 Commonwealth Games final in another close match between the two sides. Tahlia McGrath, an Australian batter who tested positive for Covid-19, was permitted to play in the game, much to the chagrin of Indian supporters. During the game, Healy shared a photo of a yacht called ‘Salty,’ which Indian supporters mistook for a reference to them. She took a lot of heat on social media over it, but she subsequently explained that it was just a random photo.
