Tom Latham and Kane Williamson set a record partnership in the first ODI in Auckland, easily chasing down India’s total of 306 runs. The Kiwis lead the series 1-0 and will seek to wrap it up in the 3rd ODI after the 2nd game was abandoned due to rain. Let us take a look at some of the key matchups before the final game of the series.

Southee vs Dhawan

Southee may have taken Dhawan’s wicket in the first ODI, but the Indian batsman has a strong record against the Kiwi pacer. In one-day internationals, the Delhi hitter has scored 119 runs in 112 balls against Southee at a strike rate of 109.3, being removed only three times. If the conditions permit, Dhawan will try to get India off to a quick start.

Kane Williamson Vs Yuzvendra Chahal

Kane returned to form great form in the first ODI after he struggled in the T20 World Cup, and his fifty against India in the second T20I was not a fluent knock. He has regained his rhythm, but it won’t be easy because Yuzvendra Chahal has an advantage over him in ODIs.

Iyer vs Ferguson

It’s no surprise that Iyer has trouble with short balls. Ferguson is New Zealand’s fastest bowler, and he might be inserted into the attack as soon as Iyer bats. Even in the first ODI, Mumbai’s batter faced a barrage of short balls, which he handled superbly. In the first ODI, Iyer faced 16 balls from Ferguson and hit 13 runs, including a six. Iyer was out a hit-wicket to Ferguson in the second T20I, most likely anticipating a short delivery. Surprisingly, in professional cricket, Ferguson has only ever dismissed Iyer once.
