Under gloomy skies at McLean Park in Napier, New Zealand won the toss which was delayed by 30 minutes and chose to bat in the final T20I against India. Kane Williamson, who missed the game due to a medical appointment, was replaced by Mark Chapman, and the hosts were led by Tim Southee. As the lone alteration, India added another seam-bowling option in Harshal Patel in lieu of Washington Sundar. The fans of the team were not happy with the team selection as players like Samson and Umran Malik were not considered.

Atrshdeep Singh and Siraj picked up 4 wickets as India restricted New Zealand to a below-par total, even though Philips and Conway hit half-centuries India made a stunning comeback in the last 3 overs when they got cheap wickets and held NZ to a score which can be considered within reach. At one time it looked like NZ would get to 175-180 but they were bowled out for 160 inside 20 overs. If India wins this game it would be their 3rd straight series win over the hosts.
