The first season of the Indian Premier League began in 2008. Since then, the lucrative T20 event has provided a platform for various players from across the world to assemble and compete to become the greatest. The 2023 auctions are nearing and the 10 teams are preparing to fine-tune their sides. Before the action in Kochi on December, 23rd let us take a look at the most successful coaches in the history of the tournament.

Stephen Fleming

Fleming played for Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural season of the cash-rich league, and the team’s administration gave him coaching duties the following season. CSK has not changed coaches since, and the 49-year-old is by far the longest-serving coach in the Indian Premier League’s history. Fleming’s Chennai team has won the T20 extravaganza four times and made the playoffs every year save seasons 2020 and 2022, making him the tournament’s most successful coach. The Canterbury native would like to add another feather to his cap and help the franchise win the championship in the coming season.

Ricky Ponting

Ponting joined the Mumbai Indians as a player in 2013 and was named the team’s head coach in 2015. The Tasmanian-born captain led Rohit Sharma and his teammates to victory in the same edition and remained with Mumbai till the 2016 season. Ponting joined the Delhi Capitals in 2018. He turned a group of younger players into a match-winning squad. After finishing last in the 11th IPL season, Delhi advanced to the playoffs in 2019 and subsequently to the finals in 2020. In the 14th edition of the prestigious T20 event, Rishabh Pant and the company also advanced to the knockout stage.

Tom Moody

Another Australian on the list, Moody was named head coach of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2008, and he led the Punjab club to the IPL playoffs in its first season. The 57-year-old was in charge of the franchise until 2010. In 2013, he returned to the cash-rich league as the coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Moody coached SRH till 2019 and was instrumental in the Hyderabad franchise reaching the playoffs five times. Under his leadership, SRH made history by winning its first IPL title in 2016. The former Australian cricketer also coached the Hyderabad franchise in the 2022 season but had little success as SRH finished eighth.
