Legends League Cricket: Virender Sehwag to lead Indian Maharaja team

Along with Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif has been appointed as vice captain of the team. Indian Maharaja has also named John Buchanan as the coach.

Virender Sehwag, Misbah Ul Haq and Darren Sammy have been named as captains for their respective teams in Howzat Legends League Cricket (LLC) T20 starting from 20th January in Muscat Cricket Stadium, Oman. Former explosive Indian batsman Sehwag, who led the Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League, has been appointed as the skipper of the Indian Maharaja team. Being a senior Indian cricketer, Sehwag has tremendous experience in leading a team and his skills will boost Indian Maharaja to give their best in the LLC T20 league. Along with Sehwag, Mohammad Kaif has been appointed as vice captain of the team. Indian Maharaja has also named John Buchanan as the coach. In his tenure as a coach of the Australian team, John had given successful results in the past. He was also the coach of Kolkata Knight Riders on the initial days of IPL.

Meanwhile, former Pakistani batsman Misbah ul Haq will lead the Asia Lions team in LLC T20. With a mixture of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan players such as Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Sanath Jayasurya, T Dilshan, Chaminda Vaas, Habibul Bashar among others, the Asia Lions side look quite stronger on the paper. Asia Lions has appointed Tillakaratne Dilshan as the vice captain, while 1996 ICC world cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga was appointed coach of the side.

Darren Sammy to lead World Giants team

Former Caribbean skipper Darren Sammy will lead the World Giants team. Sammy was the captain of St. Lucia Zouks team in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). At his disposal, Sammy has world class cricketers like former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori, Aussie pacer Brett Lee, English batsman Kevin Pietersen, South African spinner Imran Tahir and many more. Former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes will be the player cum Mentor for the World Giants Team.

Howzat LLC T20 Tournament Commissioner Ravi Shastri said: “I can’t wait to work closely with the LLC T20 tournament. It’s loved to see all the superstars come together and fight for the inaugural title of the league. These players are retired but they are still very passionate about cricket. I am sure they will show their extra skills for their teams in the next 10 days.”

Recently Howzat Legends League Cricket (LLC) announced its partnership with SONY Pictures Network. Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) to live telecast all the matches of the league to be played in January, on SONY TEN 1 and SONY TEN 3 channels as well as livestream the matches in India on SPN’s premium OTT platform, Sony LIV.

The first season of Howzat LLC will have former cricketers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, among other cricket nations divided into three Teams representing India, Asia and the Rest of the World.
