Former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli paid tribute to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives and were injured during a devastating road accident in Ladakh. Kohli, who ended his campaign with RCB after being knocked out of the IPL 2022 by Rajasthan Royals on Friday in the Qualifier 2, prayed for the quick recovery of the injured soldiers. “Devastated to hear about the loss of lives of our brave soldiers. My condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the speedy recovery of all those who are injured,” he tweeted.

Ladakh Accident: How did the incident take place?

At least seven soldiers died and 19 were injured in the accident that took place on Friday as a vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into the Shyok river. The incident took place at the Turtuk sector with the vehicle falling off from a height of 50-60 feet, according to the officials. The troops were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital with the Indian Army releasing a medical team to look after them. 

The Indian Air Force, later, moved the injured soldiers to the Army Command Hospital at Chandimandir in Haryana’s Panchkula district, according to an Army statement. “Seven individuals have been declared fatal so far. There are grievous injuries to others as well. “Dedicated efforts are underway to ensure that the best medical care is provided to the injured,” an official statement said. 

India Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted about the incident, saying, “Anguished by the bus accident in Ladakh in which we have lost our brave army personnel. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being given to the affected.”

“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives of our brave Indian Army personnel due to a Bus tragedy in Ladakh. We will never forget their exemplary service to our nation. My condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted. “Spoke to the Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, who apprised me of the situation and steps taken by the Army to save the lives of the injured soldiers. The Army is providing all possible assistance to the injured personnel.”
