The Indian Premier League is into its 13th year. 826 matches have been played since 2008. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the titles. There are plenty of statistics when it comes to batting, bowling and fielding. Individual and team records are impressive. When it comes to Kolkata Knight Riders, they are part of a horror statistic when it comes to individual high scores.

One glance of the statistic reveals that Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen have hit only one century in IPL. The only Kolkata Knight Riders batsman who has hit a century in IPL is Brendon McCullum. The New Zealand player smashed 158 in 2008 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Shockingly, that was the first match of the IPL. Since then, there have been no centuries.

Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 97 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019 remains the next highest. Only seven Kolkata Knight Riders players have registered 90s. Manish Pandey blasted 94 against Punjab Kings while Gautam Gambhir hit 93 and 90. Sourav Ganguly, Manvinder Bisla and Chris Lynn are the other players to have hit 90s.

Rock bottom in centuries

When it comes to number of centuries, Kolkata Knight Riders have the least number among all the active teams. Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore have the most number of tons with 13. Chennai Super Kings have eight followed by Rajasthan Royals with seven. Mumbai Indians have four centuries in IPL followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad with three.

Kolkata Knight Riders are in the league of teams that are now defunct in the IPL. Gujarat Lions, Kochi Tuskers and Pune Warriors have no centuries. Deccan Chargers and Rising Pune Supergiant have more centuries than Kolkata Knight Riders.

It has been 4745 days since Kolkata Knight Riders’ batsman has hit a century. One hopes the streak is finally broken in IPL 2021. Only if batsmen score big in matches can Kolkata Knight Riders end their seven-year wait for a third IPL title.
