After a failed Ashes campaign with England, Chris Silverwood’s job as head coach is in jeopardy. Just before the Ashes against Australia, England was eliminated in the semifinal of the ICC World T20 2021 by New Zealand.

With the accumulation of these losses, some England fans have shown their desire to remove Silverwood from his post despite the support of team captain Joe Root. This is surprising since Silverwood has been a solid coach for England since October 2019. He replaced Trevor Bayliss in the position and he has done well except for this recent disappointing run.

The 2021-22 Ashes series against the Aussies was a detriment to England’s strengths. There were two notable mistakes. The first was leaving out both James Anderson and Stuart Broad in the first Test. The other was Jack Leach in the second. These were two reasons that England lost both Test matches.

When you look at the SRL livescore today, you might be surprised to see that England has been disappointing for the past few months based on their results. You can see why some fans are calling for Silverwood’s job. It is because he could have done a better job at setting up the team for better success.

Root felt the team disappointed Silverwood

When you look at England’s performances, there is no single factor responsible. This includes the players, Root, Silverwood and the backroom staff. Before the Ashes, most cricket fans were speculating about Root’s future with the team. This was primarily because it was unsure whether or not he would stay.

Since he and Silverwood are a big-time pairing as leaders, people were assuming that both men would be gone from the team after a disappointing run at the Ashes. However, it seems that both leaders are looking to stay and bounce back from the bad ending to 2021.

Root himself has shown his support for his head coach when he was asked whether or not he would want Silverwood to stay. He said, “Yes, I would. I think the performances we put in during the first three games, I feel we’ve let him and the coaches down to a degree. I think he’s very calm. He has the respect of the guys in the group and is desperate to see everyone do well. It was a difficult week for the group of players with him not being around. It must have been very difficult for him.”

Root believes logistics was also a problem

When you look at the logistics challenges that England faced in the pandemic era, you can see that they have been affected. They have to fly across the world to play against their rivals. No other international team has played and traveled more than England. This has shown in the quality of their performances over the past two years.

Root said, “It was a difficult week for the group of players with him not being around and it must have been very difficult for him. For a long time, we’ve not been able to put our best teams out because we’ve been constantly trying to make sure from a mental well-being point of view everyone is looked after properly. That’s down to the schedule we’ve dealt with over two years.”

When these players perform in cricket bubbles, it is difficult to think about anything else other than cricket. That has led to several players being burnt out and you can’t blame them because they also want some personal time to do their hobbies or just rest. This bubble situation has also left some players having to leave because their injuries are not well enough to stay.

JOe Root wants to maintain England’s identity

With Silverwood at the helm, England has received some solid success but their disappointments are fresher in people’s minds. Hopefully, they can come back stronger if England and Wales Cricket Board decided to make him stay. In the meantime, Root is fighting for Silverwood’s job because he knows that his voice matters as the team captain.

Root knows that when the team is in a better situation in terms of logistics and rest, the team will be better overall. If they succeed, you will see that reflected SRL livescore today since they will be a better cricket team.
