IPL News: Update on Suryakumar Yadav's eye injury

Suryakumar Yadav is trying hard to get his form back, but the result isn’t coming in his favor. Moreover he almost severely injured his left eye.

Suryakumar Yadav is a professional cricketer who plays for India Internationally. He belongs to Ghazipur region of state Uttar Pradesh. Suryakumar got to play for India very late in his career, but right after representing India, he made a solid place for himself in the team. He is popularly known as SKY, which is the abbreviation of his name. He is also called Mr.360 by fans around the world. He was born on 14 September, 1990. Surya along with his family shifted to Mumbai, when he was just 10 years old. Suryakumar got fascinated by the game of cricket and seeing that, his father joined him in a cricket camp nearby. He plays for Mumbai Cricket team in the Ranji Trophy.

Suryakumar’s duck trail

It was in March 2023 when host India were playing against Australia. It was a three match One Day International (ODI) series. India lost the series in their own country and this happened after a long streak of 4 years. Before that India won the Test series against Australia. Suryakumar is more of a T20 player, as he is a hard hitter and scores runs from all the directions. Seeing his outstanding form, he started getting opportunities to play ODI as well. Suryakumar was expected to score runs, but he failed miserably. He got out on all the three matches on the very first ball he faced. It was a “Duck Hat Trick” by Suryakumar. He became the second batsman to do so after legend Sachin Tendulkar.

SKY got his eye injured!

It’s the Indian Premier League season going on in India right now. Lucknow Super Giants is leading the points table as of now with 3 wins out of 4 matches. Suryakumar is signed by 5 times IPL winning team Mumbai Indians. He debuted his IPL while playing for Mumbai Indians and then later got acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders. It was on 11 April, when ‘Suryakumar injured his left eye while trying to catch the ball hit by Axar Patel’. This happened in the first innings of the 16th match of IPL, when Mumbai were bowling first. Suryakumar is very athletic on the field and is considered a very good fielder, but the days for Surya are not going quite well.

Although the injury is not quite serious, Suryakumar is expected to return in the next game. The moment he hit himself with the ball, it was taken care of. Apart from his injury, the form of Surya is still very poor. In 3 IPL matches in this season so far, he has scored only 16 runs. In the first match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he managed to score only 15 runs from 16 balls, a strike rate of less than 100. In his second match he scored only 1 run from 2 balls. Suryakumar again went on a duck in the third match of Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals. Surya is facing a very hard time with his form and this is the first time when he has scored so less consecutively.
